Highlanders top Borderites 35-32 in ECKC Opener...

A huge day by Blaine Running Back, Mario Gobatto was not enough to get his Blaine Borderites(0-1) past the Hazen Highlanders(1-0) in the opening game of the Emerald City Kickoff Classic. Gobatto finished the day with 224 yards rushing on 23 carries and 4 touch downs on runs of 34, 1, 49 and 14.

Hazen jumped out to an early lead when on the third play from scrimmage Running Back, Cody Taylor shot through the defense 65 yards for the touchdown. Taylor would finish the day with 123 yards rushing on 13 carries, but his best play was a 94 yard pass from Quarterback Tony Nipert on the Highlanders first drive of the second half.

The game went back and forth to begin the 3rd quarter with both teams scorings on big plays. Hazen would take control of the game late in the third quarter when a squib kick, following a touchdown, was fumbled and recovered by the Highlanders. Three plays later Hazen Running Back, Tray Brown would power in from 3 yards out. Brown would rush 23 times for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Blaine would continue to fight with two late touchdowns but it was Hazen with the victory formation to end the game.
